The ever so long running game, Minecraft, had received numerous throughout its time. Veterans might remember that initially there were only layers of grass, dirt and cobblestone. However with later updates developers added biomes to the natural world generation.

Biomes are natural habitats which are randomly generated areas with unique geographical features, trees, mobs, temperatures and distinct colors for the sky, grass and water. With the recent update Minecraft 1.17, players can experience over 60 types of biomes.

However to give such variety of the developers had to remove some of them. Here is the list of biomes that were removed from the game.

1. Ice Desert

The ice desert was an unused biome added in Java Edition alpha version 1.2.0. It was a similar desert biomes to the desert ones but is generated with layers of snow.

The ice desert biome was one of the coldest biome in the Minecraft open world. It has a temperature of 0. However the cool biome was removed in the Adventure Update, which was released in 2011.

2. Seasonal Forests

Seasonal forest biomes are similar to regular forests in the game. However they have a temperature greater than 97% and a rainfall value between 45% and 90%. These forest s appeared between forests and rain forests. Sadly they were also removed in the Adventure Update.

3. Rain Forests

The rain forest biome was the predecessor of the earlier seen jungle biome in the game. The biome was added later in the alpha version 1.2.0.  Similar to jungles, rain forest had a dense population of tree population in comparison to other biomes available at that time.

4. Tundra

Tundra was one if the most popular snowy biome available in Minecraft. It has flat, barren lands covered with snow. Players could see that there are just few trees and mobs in this region. This was one of the worst biomes to spawn during the alpha versions as you could not find any trees. As a result

5. Shrublands

This was an uncommon biome similar to plains added in alpha version 1.2.0. Shrublands had low flat lands and featured few trees. Like swamplands, these biomes were usually small in size. Players would see shrubs where temperatures are between 50% and 97%, and rainfall value was 35%.
